    Severe

    Severe means very bad, serious, harsh, or unpleasant.

    It is extreme of bad, serious, harsh, or unpleasant.

    It means very serious, very strict, or very harsh.

    • A severe storm is a very bad and dangerous storm.
    • After the accident, she was in severe pain and was rushed to the hospital.
    • The severe drought has devastated farmers' crops for the second year in a row.


    Revere

    Revere means to have great respect for someone or something; to show devotion and honor to someone or something

    If you revere someone or something, you respect and admire them greatly.

    • Citizens are taught to revere the flag as a symbol of their nation's values.
    • Devotees revere the saint and travel to her shrine to pray.
    •  He is revered as a hero.


    Sordid

    Sordid means immoral or dishonest behavior.

    It also means dirty, and unpleasant.

    If you say someone’s behavior is sordid, you’re saying it’s immoral or dishonest.

    If you describe a place as sordid, you mean that it is dirty, unpleasant, or depressing.

    • The mayor was involved in a sordid scheme to accept bribes from local contractors.
    • The court case revealed the sordid truth behind the corporation's friendly public image.


    Sombre (Somber)

    Sombre means having a dull or dark color.

    It also means very sad and serious. If someone is sombre, they are serious or sad.

    • Her dress is very sombre.
    • Her death put us in a sombre mood.

    Gusto

    Gusto means energy or enthusiasm. 

    GUSTO sounds like “GOOSE-TOE”, think of it this way: 

    Goose toe is very tasty to eat, we eat goose toe with gusto (with energy and enthusiasm).


    Severe

    Severe means very bad, serious, harsh, unpleasant.

    Severe looks like Se- serious + vere= very.

    "SE-VERE" means "Serious-Very" — in other words, very serious.


    Revere

    Revere means to have great respect for someone or something.

    RE - REspect

    VERE - VEREy much

    To RE-VERE someone is to respect them VERE-Y much.

    Revere = Respect very much


    Sordid

    Sordid means immoral or dishonest behavior.

    Sordid looks like "sorry i did".

    Sorry i did sordid act. (sordid means dishonest behavior)


    Sombre

    Sombre means having a dull, dark color; sad, serious

    Sombre comes from Latin sub 'under' + umbra 'shade'. From Latin, we could understand that it means dull, dark and sad.

    Another mnemonic, connect somber with bomber as both words look same. Bomber makes every thing dark , sad and serious.
