These are three different types of meals, primarily distinguished by the time of day they are eaten and often by the types of food served.

Let's learn the differences between these words:


Breakfast, Dinner, Lunch, Supper



    Breakfast

    Breakfast is the first meal of the day, eaten in the morning before going to day's work.

    • I eat breakfast at 8 AM.
    • Breakfast is the most important meal of the day.
    • Don't skip breakfast.


    Lunch

    Lunch is a meal eaten in the middle of the day, typically around 12 p.. to 1 p.m..

    • The school cafeteria is serving pizza for lunch today.
    • We had a business lunch to discuss the new contract.
    • After a light lunch of soup and salad, we started doing our work again.


    Dinner

    Dinner is the main meal of the day, eaten in the evening between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m..

    • We invited our new neighbors over for a casual dinner on Friday night.
    • After a long day at work, I look forward to a relaxing dinner with my family.
    • She prepared a simple yet delicious dinner of grilled fish and roasted vegetables.



    Supper

    Supper is the meal of the evening. We eat something lighter and simpler meal. 

    • We always eat supper at seven o'clock.
    • After supper, we like to go for a walk.



    Difference between breakfast, lunch, dinner, and supper:


    Breakfast is the first meal of the day. Breakfast is called breakfast because it breaks the fast of the night. We have breakfast to get energy and nutrients to  start the day. So, breakfast literally means "to break the fast of night".


    Lunch is the meal eaten in the middle of the day. We have lunch to energize ourselves to go further in our work. It is often a quicker meal than dinner, especially on workdays.


    Dinner is the main meal of the day. It is the often the largest and most social meal of the day, where families or friends gather to eat and talk about their day. 


    Dinner vs. Lunch

    We eat lunch at our workplace(office, school, college, factory), either alone or with coworkers. While we have dinner at home, at a restaurant, or in other public places with our family.


    Lunch is almost always the midday meal, but dinner can be eaten at night or sometimes at midday. In rural areas, the largest meal is eaten at midday and called dinner.


    Supper is light evening meal. It is almost always eaten in the evening.


    In the nutshell

    Breakfast is the morning meal.

    Lunch is the midday meal generally in workplace.

    Dinner is the largest meal of the day. It can be eaten at noon, in the evening, or at night.

    Supper is the light evening meal.
