These above verbs means to destroy in a general. The basic meaning of these verbs is to damage something in a extent. Let's see more about these verbs.




     Annihilate 

    Annihilate means to destroy somebody or something completely.

    It also means to defeat somebody completely. If one annihilate someone in a contest, you defeat them completely.

    • We are annihilating our planet.
    • Donald Trump annihilates Joe Biden completely in the argument.


    Demolish 

    To demolish something means to destroy it completely. It may be building, any goods or any ideas. One can demolish other's building, or ideas.

    • The old building is being demolished by government.
    • The new theory has demolished the old theory.


    Ruin

    Ruin means to damage something so badly that it loses all its value.

    It means to harm, damage, or spoil something.

    • Heavy rain ruined farmer's crops.
    • Her new shoes got ruined in the mud.


    Eradicate 

    To eradicate something means to get rid of it completely, especially it is bad.

    • Scients are trying to eradicate illnessess such as AIDs and malaria.
    • People of India should try to eradicate corruption in the government office.


    Wreck

    To wreck something means to completely destroy or ruin it. 

    • Our garden is wrecked by neighbor's dogs.
    • Indian navy wrecked Pakistani ship.


    Exterminate

    Exterminate means to destroy or kill a group of animals, people, etc completely.

    • To exterminate a group of people or animals means to kill all of them.
    • Dinosaurs were exterminated by nature.


    Raze 

    Raze means to completely destroy something.

    If buildings, villages or towns are razed or razed to the ground, they are completely destroyed.

    • Many houses have been razed by government.
    • Rivers have been razing because of hot weather.


    Extinguish

    Extinguish means to stop burning a fire; it also means to destroys something.

    • News of the bombing extinguished all hope of peace.
    • The return of king extinguished the enemy army.


     

    Difference between these verbs:-

    Annihilate suggests to destroy something to nothingness, complete destruction that there is nothing remain. As annihilate comes from ad- to +nihil nothing. It suggests a severe degree of damage to a thing or person.


    Ruin suggests a throughout destruction; it doesn't imply single destruction. Muslims ruined temples in every part of India. Hooligans ruined Roman structures.


    Demolish suggest destruction of human made structure like buildings. A building is demolished if smashed to pieces. However, demolish can be used in other senses as well.


    Wreck suggests a battering action that breaks something up into an unusable mass or heap of fragments. 

    Angry protestors may wreck the road by hitting it with sharp objects.

    Some bad people may wreck your scooter hitting it by stones, bad, iron rod, etc.

    Wreck as  a noun means mass of damaged car, plane, ship, etc.


    Raze suggests a destruction leveled to the ground.

    Razing a building means demolishing it to the ground, destruction to that extent that no standing structure of building is there.


    Exterminate and extinguish suggest to destroy something purposefully. We exterminate ants, cockroaches, or mice if our house is full of them.

    As we know extinguish means to end the life of fire or light. Same way it ends the life of something. We extinguish fire or life of any other living or non-living things when we need to that.
