HUG VS HAG

HUG (N/V):-

Meaning:-

• Embrace, squeeze, bosom
• To put your arms around somebody or something and hold them tightly
• To fit tightly around something, especially a person's body

Examples:-

1. They put their arms around each other and hugged.
2. As long as you hugged them a lot and made good food, things seemed to be, for the most part, O.K.

HAG (N):-

Meaning:-

• Crone, witch
• Evil looking old woman
• An ugly and unpleasant old woman

Examples:-

1. I am going to tell that old hag what I think of her!
2. When she goes to bathe in the river, she is watched by the guerrillas who taunt her, calling her an old hag.

APPOSITION VS OPPOSITION

APPOSITE (Adj.):-

Meaning:-

• Germane, relevant
• A fitting and relevant comment
• (a remark) Very appropriate for a purpose or an occasion

Examples:-

1. Her remarks are extremely apposite to the present discussion.
2. He made an apposite comment on our proposal.

OPPOSITE (Adj./N/Adv./Pre.):-

Meaning:-

• Contrary; entirely different
• On the other side of particular area from somebody 
• As different as possible from something

Examples:-

1. Anita and Sunita sat at opposite ends of the table.
2. He turned and walked in the opposite direction.
3. The bank is opposite the post office.

PARSON VS PERSON

PARSON (N):-

Meaning:-

• Minister of religion, pastor, rector
• A person authorized to conduct religious worship (in the Church of England)

Examples:-

1. Parson Jones is not an ideal but a real character painted from life.
2. We are parson in the Church.

PERSON:-

Meaning:-

• Human beings, Mortal, people

Examples:-

1. He is a good person.
2. He is the person we need for the job.

PANEL (N/V):-

Meaning:-

• Board, empanel/impanel
• To cover or decorate a surface with flat strips of wood, glass etc (as a verb)
• A group of persons chosen to serve on a jury
• Strip of material inserted into a garment

Examples:-

1. The interviewing panel consists of five members.
2. What were the questions answered by the panel of experts?

PENAL:-

Meaning:-

• Relating to or used for punishment, especially law
• Punishable by law

Examples:-

1. Criminals could at one time be sentenced to penal servitude.
2. He was punished according to penal laws.

OVERHEAD:-

Meaning:-

• Above you head; in the sky (as an adverb)
• Raised above the ground (as an adjective )

Examples:-

1. Storm clouds were gathering overhead.
2. The sun shone overhead.

OVERHEADS (N):-

Meaning:-

• Regular costs of a organisation
• Regular expenses involved in running a business
• Business expenses

Examples:-
