Here we have some common grammar errors with the word "ability". We will know about those errors and learn how to fix them.


Ability means the power or skill to do something. It means the fact that you can do it.


Here we have some common errors relating to word "ability" along with correction and explanation.

1.

AI is destroying our ability of thinking. ❌

AI is destroying our ability to think.  

Note:- ability to do something not of doing. 


 Rule:

"Ability" is always followed by "to + infinitive", for examples, to write, to kill, to run, to eat.

"Ability of" + ing is not generally used in modern English. However, it is sometimes used in formal or scientific context when referring to a noun not verb. 


2.

She has improved her ability of acting.  

She has improved her acting ability.  

Note: Write acting ability, teaching ability, reading ability, writing ability, etc. 


 Rule:

Acting ability is preferred, and it looks more natural. Whereas "ability of acting" is very rare and unnatural.


3.

I want to improve my ability of English. 

I want to improve my ability in English.  

Note: ability in a language or subject, don't use "of " .


 Rule:

"Ability in [subject/field]" is the standard structure when referring to skill in a language, subject, or area.

Ability in math, ability in sports, ability in French

"Ability of English" is incorrect because "ability" refers to a person's skill, not the language itself.
