Words on Drink

Here we have many vocabularies  on drink.  Let's see them one by one.

Bib, Sip, Imbibe, Gulp,  Lap,  Quaff,  Toast, Swig,  Swill,  Guzzle, 







    Sip

    Sip means to drink something, taking a very small amount of liquid each time.

    • My son sipped his milk watching cartoon.
    • She sipped at his wine.

    As a noun, it means a very small amount of a drink that you take into your mouth.



    Imbibe

    Imbibe means to drink liquids of any kind. People generally refer alcohol with imbibe. Without object it means to drink alcohol.

    • My sister imbibes daily with her friends.
    • My friends imbibe large quantity of alcohol.



    Gulp

    Gulp means to drink large quantity of drink quickly.

    • He gulped full cup of milk.
    • Camel gulps water daily.


    Lap

    Lap means to drink something by licking with tongue.

    An animal laps a drink using short quick movements of its tongue to take liquid up into its mouth. The word is used mostly for animals.

    • The cat lapped the milk in the mug.
    • Animals are lapping at the water of a pond in the jungle.



    Quaff

    Quaff means to drink a large amount of something quickly. It is generally used for alcohol. If you quaff an alcoholic drink, you drink a lot of it in a short time.

    • Team India is celebrating the evening quaffing champagne.
    • We quaffed a few beers in my friend's house.


    Toast

    Toast to someone or something means, you lift a glass of wine or other alcoholic drink in the air and drink it at the same time as other people in order to wish somebody or something success, happiness, etc.

    • We drank a toast to a new married couple.
    • At the end of the meal my son was asked to propose a toast.


    Swig

    Swing means to take a quick drink of something, especially alcohol. Swigging a drink means drinking it from a bottle or cup quickly and in large amounts.

    • My girl friend swigged two bottle vodka.



    Swill

    Swill means to drink alcoholic drink in large quantities.

    • Old man was swilling beer on the road.


    Guzzle

    Guzzle means to drink something very quickly and greedily as you get a chance to drink after a long time.

    • Prisoners guzzled water as they got it after many days.
    • Runners guzzle the full bottle of water after running a marathon.
