Flaw, Defect, Fault
The words "flaw," "defect," and "fault" are often used interchangeably in casual speech, but they have different meanings.
Flaw
A flaw in something such as pattern or material is a fault in it should not be there. It is a built-in problem that makes something less than perfect, but it still mostly works.

Defect
A defect is a fault or imperfection in a person or thing. It is a specific, built-in problem in a product that makes it broken or poor quality.

Fault
Fault is the state of being accountable for a mistake or wrongdoing. When something bad occurs, fault is the attribution of responsibility for it.

What is the difference between Flaw, Defect, and Fault?

Fault refers to responsibility for a problem or mistake. It is a mistake, error, or culpable failure. It implies responsibility or a cause of malfunction. It is a mistake or error that someone or something is responsible for.
If can refer to an error in action, judgment, or a technical malfunction.
- The investigation found a design fault in the software.
- It's not your fault that the meeting was cancelled.
When to use Flaw, Defect, Fault:-
Use flaw to describe an imperfection that exists, but doesn't ruin something completely.
- There is a small flaw in the glass, but the window still works fine.
Use defect for a clear, physical problem in a manufactured item that makes it broken or not up to standard.
- The company issued a refund for the defective charger.
Use fault when you need to say who or what is to blame for a mistake or problem.
- The investigation proved it was the pilot's fault.
