Lifelong vs Livelong

Lifelong vs Livelong. The words "lifelong" and "livelong" are often confused because they sound similar, but they have different meanings. Lets learn about them.

    Lifelong

Lifelong means lasting or existing all through your life. If something happens for the whole of a person's life is lifelong.

    • He has been a lifelong supporter of the party.
    • His lifelong ambition is to learn about spirituality.

    Livelong

Livelong means the whole length of the day or all day.

    • He worked in the fields the livelong day.
    • She waited for her husband the livelong night.

    Difference between lifelong and livelong.

Lifelong refers to something lasting a person's entire life. A lifelong friend is someone who has been your friend for your entire life.

Livelong refers the full duration of a period of time, usually a day or night. It’s an old-fashioned or poetic way to say "the whole day long."

She waited for her husband the livelong night. (here livelong night means the whole night.)

    Common Error:-

She had a lifelong ambition to visit India.

She had a livelong ambition to visit India.

Lifelong is correct here because it means the ambition lasted her entire life.

Livelong would be wrong here because it refers to a long duration of time (like a day), not a lifelong dream.
