Patter  (N/V)-
Patter as a noun means the sound that is made by something repeatedly hitting a surface quickly and lightly.
Other meaning as a noun is fast continuous talk by somebody who is trying to sell you something or entertain you - By Oxford
                                     Word patter means a speech generally used by a comedian or salesman to impress their customers. You can listen patter of salesman when they want to sale their products to their customers.
Don't use patter as verb ever when it means as speech or a way of talking.

Now Patter as Verb-

Patter as verb means to make quick, light sounds as a surface is being hit several times.
Other meaning as a verb is to walk light steps in a particular direction- By Oxford
Word patter is an intransitive verb. We use adjective or preposition after Patter. An object is not used after intransitive verb.
E.g.- 1. Leaves pattered against the walls.
        2. Rain pattered against the window.


Potter (N/V)
Potter as a Verb means to work or move in a leisurely or aimlessly. Potter is an intransitive verb, don't use object after word ''potter''.
E.g.- 1. They potter in the garden every day.
Now Potter as Noun-
A potter is a person who makes clay pots by hand.
