Storey
A storey is one floor or level of a building. For example, a building with a ground floor and one floor above it is a two-storey building.

Floor
Floor is the surface you walk on; also a level of a building.
- Their apartment is on the 7th floor.
- The restaurant is on the ground floor.
In British English, storey = building level; story = narrative.
In American English, story is used for both.
Differences between floor and storey:
Storey emphasizes building height or number of levels, for example, a 10-storey building.
Floor usually refers to a specific level: "the fifth floor," "the ground floor."
A storey is technically the space or volume between two consecutive floors, or between a floor and the roof above it. It is used when talking about the number of levels a building has as a measure of it overall height. You would say, "They live in four-storey house" or "The office building is five storeys high".
Floor, by contrast, is used to refer to a specific, particular level within that building. You would say, "My office is on the second floor," or "She rents a ground-floor apartment". You would not typically say that something is "on a particular storey".
Use storey for “how many levels tall” a building is.
Use floor for a particular level or walking surface.
The easiest way to remember :
Storey = how many levels the building has.
Floor = which level you are on.

= The building has 5 levels in total.
- My office is on the 3rd floor.
= I am on one specific level.
- My office is on the 3rd storey.
This sounds unnatural. Use floor here.

Where is the shop? Which floor?
Common mistakes
❌ “My office is on the 4th storey.”
✅ “My office is on the 4th floor.”
❌ “It is a 4-floor building.”
✅ “It is a 4-storey building.”
(“4-floor building” is understandable, but less natural.)
✅ “A 4-storey building has 4 floors.”
This is fine because here “floors” means levels.

A floor identifies a particular level. It tells which one.
